DFW Airport to receive $3 million in grants

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson welcomed the news that Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) will be receiving $3 million in Airport Improvement Program grant funds for the rehabilitation of the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Training Facility at DFW.

Dallas-Fort Worth AT&T, Time Warner Customers Lose Data

AT&T U-verse and Time Warner customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area may have noticed an interruption in service on Wednesday.

According to CBS reports, the cause of the outage was a data line cut due to a fire when welders were working on a manhole cover on a pedestrian walkway nearby.

The Texas Department of Transportation claims its crew was replacing a stolen manhole cover when the welding activities ignited an old wood structure located under the utility lines.

Anthony Castille would watch the girl while her mother worked.

Detectives say Castille would make the child watch pornography and then assault her.

Virgin America en route to DFW Airport

With its Fly Girls and Wi-Fi, Virgin America will soon be landing in North Texas.

The carrier — which is 25 percent owned by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group — announced Tuesday that it will launch service from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to Los Angeles and San Francisco in December.

More White Powder Letters Found in DFW

More letters containing white powder were found Tuesday in the Dallas – Fort Worth area. They bring the total number of tainted letters to 24 in the past five days.

Since Thursday, various churches, mosques, businesses and government agencies have received the letters.

A source tells FOX 4 in each case powder falls out of an envelope as it is opened. Inside there is a typed message that mentions Al Queda.

DART looking at resuming DFW project

Dallas Area Rapid Transit leaders are reviewing a new long-term financial plan that could mean rail service to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after all.

The largest municipal rail system in Texas in June cited the economy in announcing an indefinite delay of the airport service.

Travel website Expedia laying off nearly 300 in DFW

Online travel website Expedia is laying off 167 employees at a facility in Arlington and 129 at a Dallas office.

The company filed notices with the Texas Workforce Commission last week, saying the workforce reduction would affect dozens of telesales and customer service agents at its Arlington call center. Positions affected in Dallas included credit card support staff and financial operations employees.

Special Delivery in Fort Worth

An airlift of air conditioning units was a crowd pleaser for passers by in Fort Worth Saturday Morning. A big helicopter hoisted 57 pieces of heavy equipment onto the roof at Trimble Technical High School near Henderson and Rosedale.

The Fort Worth ISD has made 11 other air conditioning repairs or replacements this summer because of copper theft vandalism. But Saturday’s work at Trimble was planned in advance as part of a major renovation project at the school.

For the second consecutive year, RaceTrac Petroleum Inc.’s Dallas-Fort Worth Division has been identified by The Dallas Business Journal as one of the “Best Places to Work in Dallas/Fort Worth.” Among employers with more than 500 employees in North Texas, the gasoline/convenience retailer again finished in the top 25.

Now in its eighth year, the Best Places to Work program recognizes the top employers in the area. Unlike the newspaper’s other awards programs, these honorees are not chosen by a panel of judges, but by the company’s own employees, via in-depth surveys administered by QMR Corp.
